Sarnia home heavily damaged in fire

A Lochiel Street home sustained about $300,000 in damages following a fire overnight.

Sarnia Fire and Rescue were called to a structure fire in the 200 block of Lochiel Street near Euphemia Street at 11:43 p.m.

Fire Life Safety Educator Mike Otis said three stations responded to the blaze.

"There was flames pouring out of the house, it was heavily engulfed in flames and extensive damage," said Otis.

He said the cause of the fire is still under investigation but confirmed no one was home at the time.

Sarnia firefighters and members of the Sarnia Police Service were on scene at the one-and-a-half storey home until early afternoon Wednesday. Lochiel Street was closed to traffic between College Avenue and Brock Street for several hours.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
