Sarnia-Lambton's MPP is pleased to see the boosted speed limit on Highway 402 will stay in effect.
The provincial government announced Tuesday that it has decided to keep speed limits of 110 kilometres per hour on some sections of local 400-series highways.
Bob Bailey said he hasn't heard any complaints since the pilot project was launched in the fall of 2019.
"We had that three year trial period, and I think it's been very successful," said Bailey. "I know I've spoken with the OPP and they said they know people are driving faster but they have no more traffic infractions, no more than before."
Highway 402 is one of six sections of provincial highways in southern Ontario that will maintain the boosted speed limits.
Bailey said it's a positive for motorists.
"It will help people, especially when the roads are clear and traffic is o.k that they'll get to their destinations a little quicker," he said. "They did polls, and said over 80 per cent of the people they were able to survey were supportive of raising the speed limit on the 400 series highways."
Speed limiter devices on large trucks to cap speeds at 105 kilometres per hour will remain in place.
