Sarnia Kinsmen hosting craft show at Baxter Park

A new springtime event is aimed at raising funds to beautify a park in Sarnia's north end.

The Sarnia Kinsmen Club is hosting the “Spring into Summer Arts and Craft Show” at Baxter Park at the end of the month.

Tourism Sarnia-Lambton Special Events Coordinator Vicky Praill said over 40 vendors have already signed up.

"We have vendors that are doing ceramics, clothing, glass, jewellery, painting, gourmet food, textile, wood, leather," said Praill. "There will be a bit of everything for people to enjoy."

Money generated will be put toward the installation of two plaques that will highlight the history of Baxter Park. It was home to the former Kinsmen Centre which was torn down in 2018.

Plans are also underway to raise money for a future community centre at the park, located in the area of Lakeshore Road and Colborne Road.

Past fundraising allowed the Kinsmen to build a pergola at the park in celebration of the club's 90th anniversary in 2021.

Event Co-Chair Jack Struck said the club is looking forward to the event.

"The Sarnia Kinsmen Club have been serving and building the Sarnia community for over 90 years." said Struck, "Much of our community involvement and philanthropy would not have been possible without collaboration. Over the years the Kinsmen have hosted many events, including the annual Ribfest, Canada Day Parade and Santa Claus Parade. We have raised over $1 million dollars for our community and supported many initiatives and we look forward to continuing our efforts and truly making a difference."

The show is set to take place Saturday, April 30 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Sunday, May 1 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
