Building permits lagging behind first quarter of 2021

Construction activity in Sarnia is lagging behind last year's pace.

City hall issued 62 building permits in March for a three month 2022 total of 129, worth just over $34.5 million, which is $19.1 million less than last year.

The largest permit last month was for $1.5 million for a dwelling at 1704 Blackwell Road.

A permit for just under $1.1 million was issued for construction of Origin Materials' first commercial production plant at Arlanxeo's Bio-Industrial Park on Vidal Street.

There were 10 permits issued for single-family dwellings in March, for a year-to-date total of 21, compared to 36 in 2021. City hall also issued 13 permits last month for swimming pools.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
