Pedestrian struck at Maxwell and Capel dies

Sarnia police say a 66-year-old woman, who was struck by a vehicle on March 31, has died.

Police were called to the area of Maxwell Street and Capel Street at around 11 a.m.

According to witnesses, she was crossing Capel Street, from east to west, not at the intersection, while the traffic light was green for northbound and southbound traffic.

She was struck by a southbound vehicle and transported to hospital with injuries.

Police said Delana Gallant died on April 15 due to complications arising while still in hospital.

As a result of the investigation by the Sarnia Police Service Traffic Unit, no charges will be laid.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
