UPDATE: Shell contains sheen spotted at St. Clair River dock

Shell Canada says a sheen discovered on the St. Clair River Monday morning was contained by mid-afternoon and cleanup was underway.

The sheen was observed at around 11 a.m. in the vicinity of the Shell Refinery dock and the commercial vessel, Algosea.

The company said as of 3 p.m., the release was no longer considered to be active.

As a precaution, Shell said booms will remain in place until the cleanup is completed. The downstream river has been inspected via boat and drone and no sheen is visible.

According to Shell, this incident should have no environmental impact.
