Municipal candidate info sessions planned

If you're thinking about running for municipal council in Lambton County, you might be wondering where to start.

Sarnia City Clerk Amy Burkhart said two information sessions are being held virtually Monday to help answer those questions.

"The sessions are being jointly hosted by municipal clerks in the County of Lambton and conducted by Fred Dean," said Burkhart. "Fred Dean is a municipal training consultant and former city solicitor."

Dean, a lawyer, knows the ins and outs of municipal government and is a regular contributor at the annual Association of Municipalities Ontario (AMO) conference.

"The focus of the sessions will be on municipal governance, rules and responsibilities and things to consider when considering a run for office," Burkhart said.

Those interested are not required to pre-register.

"The ZOOM links will be available on the city's webpage, www.sarnia.ca, and anyone is welcome to join."

Burkhart said participants will also learn how to file their nomination paperwork for the October 24 election.

The sessions will run at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. and each last about two hours.
