Local students show support for Ukraine

Northern students are showing their support for Ukraine.

The secondary school's Key Club held a bake sale last month, selling out of 850 blue and yellow cupcakes, and raising over $1,000 for Save Ukraine Sarnia.

The fundraiser was organized by Northern French teacher and first generation Ukrainian Canadian, Mme. Natalia Ferrar, who has family in Ukraine.

Family Studies Teacher Mrs. Chapple also organized a barbecue fundraiser with the help of the Key Club and students to collect money to help Ukrainian refugees settling in the area.

Key Clubs from both Northern Collegiate Institute and Vocational School and Alexander Mackenzie Secondary School handed out sunflower seeds for a donation during Easter in the Park, collecting around $800 for the Red Cross.

Key Clubs assist Kiwanis International in carrying out its mission to serve the children of the world, and high school student members of Key Clubs perform acts of service in their communities including organizing food drives and cleaning up parks.
