Sarnia class hosts fundraiser for Ukraine refugee family

A school-wide carnival at St. Matthew Catholic School has raised $1,166 to support a Ukrainian refugee family.

Students in the Grade 5/6 class at the Sarnia school recently organized and hosted "Carnival for a Cause" which included games and cotton candy.

The students received some help from a local party rental store that donated the cotton candy machine.

"I want to thank our students and staff for their tremendous effort to help a family caught in a crisis of war halfway around the world," said Principal Derek Morrison in a statement.

The funds were donated to St. George Catholic Ukrainian Church. The church is helping in the relocation process of refugees fleeing to Canada.

A town hall meeting was held earlier this week for Sarnia-Lambton residents and employers who are willing to help in the resettlement process.
