Construction for BWH helipad taking off

Construction of Bluewater Health's helipad begins Monday.

The Sarnia hospital said groundbreaking construction at the old Sarnia Central track on East Street will begin with the removal of the track, expected to take about two weeks.

The municipal pathway running alongside the south side of the property will be temporarily unavailable while work is completed.

The track property was designated a construction zone in November 2021, and will remain fully fenced off and closed for public use over the coming months.

Bluewater Health hopes to finalize construction of the helipad by late summer, with operation of the landing area to begin in the fall pending Transport Canada certification.

The project is estimated to cost $912,000.
