Striking workers picket in the valley

Picket lines were set up at a few sites in Corunna Monday and again Tuesday morning.

Members of International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 793 are on strike, including about 60 locally.

The workers, including crane and heavy equipment operators, were stationed outside the Shell gates on St. Clair Parkway and at Sarens Crane on Polymoore Drive.

The workers contract expired on April 30 and over 15,000 construction workers across Ontario have been on strike since May 2, after voting to turn down the latest offer by the employer bargaining agency.

Those on strike also include members of the Labourers International Union of North America (LiUNA) Local 183.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
