Allegedly intoxicated suspect smashes out cruiser windshield

A 20-year-old Sarnia man faces charges of mischief and public intoxication after allegedly smashing out the windshield of a city police car.

Sarnia police said it happened at around 3:20 p.m. Monday while the vehicle was parked at a business in the area of Indian Road and Confederation Street.

Video surveillance showed the suspect jumping up onto the hood of the cruiser and then kicking the windshield out. Police said it also appeared that the suspect was recording his actions on his cell phone as he was committing the crime.

A description of the suspect was broadcasted to officers on the road and he was arrested a short distance away.

The accused was held for a bail hearing.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
