UPDATE: Afternoon thunderstorms roll through Sarnia

Residents may get some relief from the heat and humidity as severe thunderstorms moved across the region Wednesday afternoon.

Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Sarnia-Lambton, Chatham-Kent, Windsor-Essex, and London-Middlesex at around 12:20 p.m.

The weather agency later upgraded the watch to a warning for several areas including Sarnia, Petrolia, and Western Lambton County at around 1:10 p.m. A warning was issued for Watford, Pinery Park and East Lambton at around 1:40 p.m.

The warnings were lifted for Sarnia-Lambton at around 2:40 p.m., and the watches were down by 5:15 p.m.

Wind gusts of up to 90 kilometres per hour were expected, along with heavy downpours and small hail.

The national weather agency said thunderstorms have developed over Michigan and are moving towards southwestern Ontario.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
