'Cheesy' event returns to Petrolia

Seven vendors will be handing out steaming slices during the ninth annual Petrolia Pizzafest at Victoria Park.

Pizzafest will return to the downtown area on Saturday from 12 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Participating vendors include Bud’s Family Pizza, Godfathers Pizza, Helen’s Hideaway Family Restaurant, Johnny G’s Premium Pizza, Petrolia Pizza & Subs, Pizza Hut, Petrolia, and Wise Guys Inc.

"It's not a competition of who's best or who sells the most," said Director of Marketing, Arts, and Communications Laurissa Ellsworth. "People seem to love it! There's something about music, pizza, and beer that go together on a nice sunny day, that it's something you just can't match."

Fan-favourite musicians will include The Twang Bsds., Vinyl Revival, and The Geoff Masse Band.

For children, outdoor activities such as bouncy castles and games will be set up.

In past years, the highest total amount of pizza sold was just over 7,500 slices in seven hours.

Pizza ticket prices will be kept at $2.50.

By keeping prices the same, despite increasing expenses, John McFadden of Wise Guys Inc. said this acts as a way for vendors to show appreciation to customers for their support over the past two years.

"It has been a difficult time for all of us in one way or another, and the support from our community has been paramount in our ability to stay open and remain viable,” said McFadden in a statement.

Pizzafest was held virtually over the past two years. This year's in-person event was sponsored by Bluewater Power, Riverside Print & Signs, Bourque Renovations, Courtney Hind- IG Wealth Management, Baysar Business Solutions, MIG Engineering, Rick and Barb Charlebois, BrokerLink, and Holland Cleaning Solutions.
