Grant to IODE funds tree planting initiative

A grant to commemorate the Platinum Jubilee for Queen Elizabeth II will go towards planting 35 trees in Sarnia.

The IODE Errol Egremont Chapter recently received a $5,000 grant from the Department of Canadian Heritage.

The women's charitable organization has partnered with Climate Action Sarnia-Lambton to plant 35 native trees in Coronation Park. With help from the city's Parks Department, a bench including a commemorative plaque will also be installed.

Planting is scheduled to take place in October with a celebratory event to follow in the fall.

The Queen's Platinum Jubilee will be celebrated over the course of four days across the Commonwealth to thank Her Majesty's 70 years of service.
