Sarnia man faces weapon, drug charges

A 33-year-old Sarnia man is facing several charges following a few different incidents within the city, including a gas and dash.

Sarnia police were called Tuesday about the gas drive-off incident on London Line. Officers were able to identify a suspect through video surveillance. The suspect was also allegedly driving a stolen vehicle at the time.

Police were later called about a dispute between two men. One of them appeared to grab a black handgun from a vehicle that matched the description of the gas drive-off.

About 30 minutes later at 11 a.m., another disturbance was reported to police. Witnesses said one man had a bat and a handgun.

The suspect was arrested shortly before noon. Police said a plastic air soft type handgun was found inside the stolen vehicle, along with stolen identification, and cocaine.

The accused was charged with assault with a weapon, weapons dangerous, pointing a firearm, possession of property obtained by crime, possession of a concealed weapon, theft under $5,000, possession of a controlled substance, breach of probation, driving while prohibited, and two counts of identity theft.

He was remanded into custody with a future court date.
