Vehicle and body recovered from St. Clair River

Police in Michigan are investigating after a body was pulled from a vehicle that had entered the St. Clair River west of Courtright Sunday night.

The St. Clair County Sheriff's Office responded to the area near 525 Riverside Avenue at around 7:30 p.m.

"Our dive team responded to assist in the vehicle and body recovery," Lieutenant Scott Baldwin with the Detective Bureau told Sarnia News Today.

A man was pulled from the vehicle and taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy was being planned to determine the cause of death.

Baldwin said the St. Clair Police Department is conducting the investigation.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
