Acting deputy chief appointed for Sarnia police

The Sarnia Police Services Board has appointed an interim deputy chief.

Inspector Peter Murphy has been named acting deputy chief while the board undertakes a formal competition to fill the position permanently.

Acting Deputy Chief Peter Murphy has been with the Sarnia Police Service since 1999 and has made his way through the ranks from constable to inspector.

He takes on the role following the retirement of Deputy Chief Owen Lockhart after 32 years with the service, including four as deputy chief.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
