A Sarnia native has taken another step toward his dream of joining Major League Baseball.

Shortstop Dylan O'Rae, who is a Northern Collegiate student and member of the Canadian junior national team, was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the third round of the MLB draft on Monday.

He was the first Canadian selected in the draft.

The 18-year-old has played in 25 games with Canada's junior squad, batting .257 with four doubles, one triple, eight RBI, 26 runs scored and 17 stolen bases.

According to Rotowire, O'Rae was one of the top Canadian bats in the draft. The teenager has speed to burn along with a quick stroke from the left side.

O'Rae is also a member of the Great Lake Canadians U-18 program.

He's committed to the University of Illinois to play division one baseball in 2023.
