Weekend kicks off with two-day heat event

Residents are encouraged to try to keep cool this weekend as heat and humidity are expected to blanket the region.

Environment Canada issued a heat warning for Sarnia-Lambton Friday afternoon.

The national weather agency said daytime high temperatures are expected to be in the low 30s and humidex values are expected to reach the low 40s.

Nighttime temperatures will bring little relief from the heat with lows ranging from 20 Celsius to 22 C.

Cooler temperatures are expected on Monday.

These hot conditions follow a couple of stormy days. About 45 millimetres of rain fell in Sarnia on Thursday, resulting in several flooded basements and road closures.

Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can result in the Air Quality Health Index approaching the high-risk category.
