Drowning incident reported near Blue Water Bridge

Rescue efforts could be seen from Point Edward on Sunday as marine units in Port Huron located the body of a 58-year-old man.

The St. Clair County Sheriff's Office said a drowning incident was reported at around 12:32 p.m.

Police said a man jumped into the water without a life jacket in an effort to set his anchors at Lighthouse Beach.

Due to the heavy current, he was unable to swim back to the boat or to shore.

Members of the sheriff’s office marine division, sheriff’s office dive team, U.S. Coast Guard, and Port Huron Fire Department searched for the man.

His body was found south of the Blue Water Bridge and recovered hours later and taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office.

He was identified on Monday as Donald Maul of Marysville, Michigan.

Police said alcohol was not believed to be a factor.
