A couple of important community initiatives, spearheaded by Lambton OPP, are getting some backing from the Ontario government.
Grant funding will continue until 2025 for the Mobile Crisis Response Team and Project 1-in-3.
Funding of just over $126,000 in each of the next three years, allows the OPP to add a third mobile crisis nurse to the Mobile Crisis Response Team (MHRT).
In some cases, the nurses will attend calls with police where mental health or addictions may be a factor.
The money will also be put toward training for officers under Project Lifesaver, with the purchase three units to aid in locating vulnerable people who may wander.
Project 1-in-3 is getting around $256,000 this year, and just over $248,000 for the two years following.
The funds enable the OPP to continue their partnership with Rebound and the Sexual Assault Survivors Centre to bring continued resources to the youth in the community.
This will be done through event interaction, attendance in area schools and being visible to youth who may only receive education and exposure to the subject of sexual assault through this program.
The OPP said the funding came about thanks in part to the extensive work from Cst. Colleen Bresette and Staff Sgt. Jennifer Wilson.
