Bike thieves caught on camera

Surveillance video helped Sarnia police nab two bike thieves.

Police say at around 12:45 a.m. Monday, two men attended the Sarnia Bay Marina on Seaway Road and entered the water.

The pair swam into the marina to gain access and allegedly used bolt cutters to steal two bicycles that were locked up.

Police said the two men, with the bikes in hand, walked out of the marina through the main access and were caught on video surveillance.

Later that same day, officers on patrol spotted one of the alleged suspects on one of the stolen bikes. They attempted to flee from police, but were apprehended after a brief struggle.

On Tuesday, the second suspect was located and taken into custody without incident.

Both men, 28 and 32-years-old are charged with theft under $5,000.
