Chopper makes emergency landing near Grand Bend

A helicopter was forced to land on the front yard of a home Thursday, just north of Grand Bend.

Huron County OPP, Lambton EMS and the Lambton Shores Fire Department responded to the incident at around 9:30 p.m.

Fire Chief Lawrence Swift said a personal-use helicopter had come to rest on the front lawn of a home.

"So the people on board were all family and were just leaving a restaurant and flying home with the helicopter," said Lawrence. "As they took off, the pilot reported that at some point, he lost all power in the helicopter and was able to make a forced landing. Kind of a bumpy landing I gather but, once again everybody was safe."

Police said neither the pilot or two passengers were injured, but there was damage reported to some nearby trees.

The helicopter sustained minor damage in the landing.

The Transportation Safety Board is looking into the incident to determine why the engine failed.
