The Town of Plympton-Wyoming will celebrate upgrades to Lamrecton Family Park Thursday.
Director of Public Works Adam Sobanski said a grand opening ceremony and ribbon cutting will be held at 5 p.m.
"We'd actually tried to plan the grand opening much earlier, as we took over the park in 2015 and improvements have been ongoing, but unfortunately due to the COVID pandemic, we had to continue to push off the grand opening," said Sobanski.
He said they're moving forward with a formal event now that pandemic restrictions have lifted, and they've completed the majority of planned renovations.
"This year we undertook a significant shoreline erosion control project. We completely refurbished the beach front area to prevent further loss of land. A number of years ago we constructed a gazebo and an accessible washroom and we've had ongoing parking lot and landscaping improvements as well over the last few years."
Sobanski said the event will give them a chance to recognize the park's history.
"The park was donated to the town in 2015. Lamrecton Camp was previously owned by a local church group and they wanted it to remain in the public domain, so they donated it to the town and we've kept it in the domain by ensuring it becomes a waterfront park with the municipality."
The seven-acre Lake Huron park is located on the north side of Egremont Road, just to the east of Mandaumin Road
"The opening ceremony will start at about 5 p.m. and run until 6:30 p.m.," said Sobanski. "Our mayor will be there to carry out the opening festivities and we're going to have Dips Soft Serve there, serving ice cream and slushies to the attendees."
