Knife-wielding man charged in random assault

Two Queen Street residents were threatened by an unknown man who was allegedly armed with a knife.

Sarnia police were called to an apartment in the 100 block of Queen Street just before 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 25.

Cst. John Sottosanti said a male suspect made his way into an apartment, threatened the residents with harm and assaulted one of them.

He said the suspect fled and was located nearby by responding officers.

"A physical confrontation with police ensued, at which point a conducted energy weapon, or taser, was deployed," said Sottosanti. "Police were able to take the accused into custody without further escalation, however, an officer did sustain minor injuries during the arrest."

Police believe the use of an illegal substance was a contributing factor, and said the victim was not seriously hurt.

Sottosanti said Dakota Berlin George, 27, of Sarnia is charged with assault, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and uttering threats.

He was being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
