Minimal damage reported in Tuesday fire

Minimal damage is reported following a fire at a semi-detached home on Afton Drive over the noon hour Tuesday.

Sarnia Fire and Rescue Services Captain Dale Gartshore said firefighters extinguished it quickly, so it didn't spread to the neighbouring unit.

"It was a fire in the dryer," said Gartshore. "Crews from three stations responded and we were able to contain it to the dryer and put it out. Everyone is safe and back in their residence."

Gartshore said there was one individual home at the time, but no one was hurt.

"All smoke detectors were activated and alerted the resident to the problem."

An investigation was underway to determine the exact cause of the fire in the dryer.

Afton Drive was closed to traffic, between London Road and Bradford Drive, while crews cleaned up.

Sarnia police also responded.
