Stolen equipment recovered in Point Edward

Lambton OPP say equipment stolen from a construction vehicle in Point Edward, that police warned posed a public safety issue, was returned to its owner Saturday.

Officers were contacted regarding an overnight theft from a vehicle on Mara Street at 5:30 a.m. Friday.

Police said an Instrotek Xplorer 3500 was among the items taken.

The device is used to measure the density of asphalt and police said it contained hazardous components if tampered with.

Following assistance from the public, the stolen equipment was located around 10 p.m. Saturday and returned to its owner who confirmed it had not been tampered with and posed no danger.

Police said the investigation is continuing.
