Sting add depth on blueline for upcoming season

The Sarnia Sting are adding some depth on the blueline ahead of the upcoming Ontario Hockey League season.

The club has acquired the rights to defenceman Mitch Young from the Owen Sound Attack, in exchange for a conditional 12th round draft pick in 2023.

Standing at 6 foot 1, and 171 pounds, Young split the 2021-22 season between the Waterloo Wolves U18 AAA team and the Kitchener-Waterloo Siskins of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL).

The right handed shooting Elmira, Ontario native tallied a goal and seven assists through 15 games with the Wolves, in addition to eight goals and 23 assists through 35 games played with the Siskins.

Sting General Manager Dylan Seca said Young is a welcome addition.

"Our scouting staff liked Mitch’s skill and upside," said Seca. "We believe he has the chance to be a very good OHL player and will monitor his progress over the coming weeks."

The Sting's next preseason game is Thursday, September 22 in Windsor, and they will host the Spitfires on Saturday, September 24.

Sarnia's first game of the season is scheduled for Friday, September 30 in Kitchener. The home opener at Progressive Auto Sales Arena will be on Friday, October 7 versus the Saginaw Spirit.
