No injuries in basement fire

Damage is estimated at $80,000 following a basement fire on Kathleen Avenue Monday afternoon.

Sarnia Fire and Rescue Services, Fire Life Safety Educator Mike Otis said crews from three stations responded to a structure fire at a townhouse in the 400 block at around 12:30 p.m.

"The fire was determined to be accidental in nature, with no injuries," Otis said.

Otis said working smoke alarms alerted the people in the unit to the fire and they were able to get out safely.
