Careless smoking deemed cause of Marcin Road fire

Careless disposal of smoking materials has been listed as the cause of an afternoon house fire in Sarnia.

The fire broke out around 2:45 p.m. on Saturday on Marcin Road near Michigan Avenue.

Fire officials said crews arrived to discover heavy brown smoke coming from inside the home.

Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control and ventilated the smoke from the residence.

No one was home at the time of the fire, according to officials.

Investigators determined the cause of the fire was from carelessly disposing smoking materials, which ignited combustibles in and around recycle bins stored at the side of the house.

No injuries were reported and the damage is pegged at around $120,000.
