Local fitness facility allegedly defrauded by employee

A Sarnia woman has a court date next month after she allegedly swindled money from her employer.

Sarnia police Cst. John Sottosanti said they were notified in March by the owner of Sharky's Athletic Club on London Line, that the business was being defrauded.

"It is alleged that various transactions were suspicious in nature, and that ultimately business accounts were low in funds," said Sottosanti.

He said the Criminal Investigation Branch began to investigate, and were able to determine that funds had been taken from the business by an employee.

"It is believed that new membership fees were being diverted to the accused, instead of the business," said Sottosanti.

Jessica Lee Simourd, 30, of Sarnia faces one count of fraud over $5,000.

The accused is scheduled to appear in Sarnia court on November 17, 2022.
