UPDATE: Two cats rescued from basement fire

Sarnia Fire and Rescue was called to a fire around mid-morning Tuesday.

Firefighters responded to a row-house on Ross Avenue near Carleton Place for a basement fire.

No injuries were reported, but fire officials said two cats were rescued and are doing well.

Officials said on Wednesday, the fire was caused by a malfunctioning appliance and was classified as accidental.

Damage was estimated at $50,000.
