Age-Friendly website relaunches with new design

A revamped Age-Friendly Sarnia-Lambton website should now be easier for residents to find and access services within the community.

An official relaunch was held earlier this month.

The website was first set up in 2019 to help adults, aged 55 and up, find community supports and health services.

However, a survey launched in 2021 as well as other initiatives, found several areas for improvement as adults had difficulty navigating the website and knowing what resources were available.

Sarnia-Lambton Ontario Health Team (OHT) Health System Integration Lead Nadine Neve said the redesigned website now includes several new icons and service listings.

"The biggest change really is that we moved from something that was geared to older adults to a site that actually encompasses services for every age and every stage -- so all ages in Sarnia-Lambton," said Neve. "We also have some newly expanded service listings to include mental health support, Indigenous support, and we have some added services around equity, diversity, and inclusion. Then the other key feature as well as we have a 24/7 support area."

There's also a community navigator phone line for those who can't find what they're looking for. The line is operational every day between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m., by individuals at Sarnia's Family Counselling Centre.

Neve said those who originally participated in engagement sessions have confirmed that the changes to the website are what they wanted.

"But as well, we've actually got a survey right on the site to tell us how we're doing so we'll be monitoring that regularly, and bringing people back together if we feel there's more change needed or if there are additional services that we can support on that website," Neve said.

The new user-friendly website was spearheaded by Sarnia-Lambton OHT in partnership with Lambton Public Health, Lambton Elderly Outreach, and Family Counselling Centre.
