Sarnia Sting fall 4-1 to first-place Saginaw Spirit

The Sarnia Sting's six-game point streak ended Friday in a 4-1 loss to the Saginaw Spirit at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.

The Spirit led 1-0 after the first period on a goal by Michael Misa. Tyson Doucette replied for the Sting in the second at 2:58.

"We knew coming in that time and space was going to be tough," said Sting Head Coach Alan Letang. "You'd have to fight for every inch of ice out there."

Ethan Ritchie served the first game of his two-game suspension for instigating a fight in Wednesday’s win over the Mississauga Steelheads.

Ritchie was joined by Ryan Mast, Chandler Romeo, Josh Hoover and Cason Campbell off the ice, while captain Nolan Dillingham returned to the blue-line.

With Mast and Ritchie out, Alexis Daviault and Mitch Young played bigger roles than usual on the power play.

"We're missing just more than one guy on the power play," said Letang. "We’re patching it together a little bit at times, but those guys want the opportunity or they think they can play on the power play."

The Spirit (16-6-1-0) moved five points ahead of the Sting (12-7-3-1).

Sarnia travels to Flint Saturday to play the Firebirds. Pregame on CHOK (103.9FM/1070AM) starting at 6:30 p.m.

Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
