Sarnia police to host public meeting

Members of the public are being invited to an information session next week to discuss the 2023 Sarnia Police Services' Business Plan and budget.

The Sarnia Police Services Board recently approved an 11.5 per cent budget increase.

However, a budget overview presented to city council last week called for a six per cent increase. The draft budget will officially go before Sarnia council during budget deliberations in January 2023.

Before then, residents with questions can attend a public meeting on December 5 at Our Lady of Mercy Hall, located on Christina Street North. The Sarnia Police Service is hosting a Q-and-A session between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.

The service's business plan, which was developed with feedback from the community, will also be discussed.

Proposals in the plan include the launch of an auxiliary unit and the expansion of the Mental Health Engagement and Response Team.
