Many expected to sign up for winter programming

The City of Sarnia is anticipating a high demand for winter programs following "one of the busiest" fall sessions it has seen.

Registration for adult programming (20 years and older) opens on December 7. The winter session runs from January 1 to March 31, 2023.

Community Services Coordinator Mike Neely said a few programs are expected to sell out within the first day of registration.

"It was a busy fall so we expect the same for the winter, people moving indoors and looking for things to do," said Neely.

Line dancing, a stretch yoga/ pilates program, and a fitness program tend to be the most popular.

"But we're looking to expand on some other programming. I feel like we always have a few more programs to add each session so we're hoping that a few of these other ones take off as well."

New winter programs include drop-in cornhole, chair core conditioning, yoga for back pain, and aging backwards. There will also be an expanded offering of woodworking programs.

Prices range depending on the program.

Neely said many of the day-time programs see more of an older crowd but they hope to see more of a younger demographic since adding evening programs, Mondays through Wednesdays.

Registration can be done online. For help, residents are asked to contact the Strangway Centre at (519) 332-0656.
