Unseasonably warm, wet weather may cause flooding

Conservation officials are closely monitoring watershed conditions as temperatures rise and up to 35 millimetres of rainfall is expected over the next two days.

The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority issued a flood outlook Thursday afternoon.

In addition to the precipitation and above freezing temperatures, snowpack loss may cause increased runoff and elevated water levels.

An Environment Canada meteorologist said the forecasted weather conditions will stick around for a few days until an air mass from the Gulf of Mexico moves away.

The conservation authority said there may be minor flooding in natural floodplain areas, parks, and fields. Blocked drains may also cause ponding on local roadways.

Residents are asked to avoid shorelines and flood areas due to safety concerns.
