Impaired driver caught sleeping on St. Clair Pkwy

A Sarnia man accused of sleeping in his car in the middle of traffic has been charged with impaired driving.

At around 11:15 p.m. Thursday, Sarnia police received word of a vehicle parked and impeding traffic in the middle of St. Clair Parkway.

Cst. John Sottosanti said when a passerby approached the parked car and knocked on the driver's window, the suspect awoke and then suddenly left the area at a high rate of speed.

Officers were able to locate the vehicle as it made its way to a Sarnia residence. When police arrived at the home, the suspect was showing signs of intoxication and had a bottle of open alcohol in his vehicle.

The 39-year-old man was arrested and taken to police headquarters where it's alleged he blew over twice the legal blood alcohol limit.

Cst. Sottosanti said thanks to concerned citizens assisting the police, in this fashion, it is possible to reduce impaired driving.
