UPDATE: Fire sparks on balcony of Petrolia apartment

The cause of a fire, which started on a balcony of an apartment building in Petrolia, is under investigation.

Petrolia & North Enniskillen Fire Chief Jay Arns said crews were called to Mid Valley Apartments on Petrolia Line at around 2:20 a.m. The fire was contained to a third-floor balcony.

"We're currently on scene doing the investigation. It's undetermined at this point," said Arns.

No injuries were reported.

Arns said there was minimal damage to the building's exterior.

"All damage was just to the balcony itself and contents of the balcony. There was a window damaged and the railing ... but it didn't extend to the inside of the building."

Damage is estimated at $5,000.

This is the second apartment fire reported in Petrolia this week. During a separate incident, several residents were temporarily displaced after a fire broke out at an apartment building on Greenfield Street Sunday afternoon.
