Buses cancelled due to winter storm

School buses in the Lambton-Kent region will not be running Wednesday due to a messy mix of winter weather.

CLASS Shared School Services General Manager Kent Orr made the announcement before 6 a.m. that buses in zones one through eight would not be running in the morning or afternoon. The shared services organization operates buses in the Lambton Kent and St. Clair Catholic District School Boards.

The Catholic school board said teachers at all schools will be available through their learning management systems to provide asynchronous learning for any students who are unable to attend school but wish to participate.

The public school board said all elementary schools are open to students, while all LKDSB secondary students will engage in one-day remote, teacher-led virtual learning.

On Tuesday, Environment Canada issued a freezing rain warning for most of southwestern Ontario, including Sarnia-Lambton.

The weather agency said a prolonged period of freezing rain could lead to significant ice build-up in some areas.
