Alleged impaired driver takes out fire hydrant in Sarnia

A 29-year-old Sarnia resident is accused of impaired driving after crashing into a fire hydrant and a parked vehicle on Wednesday.

Sarnia police said the accused was driving southbound on Cardiff Drive, south of Wellington Road, at a "high rate of speed" when they failed to account for a bend in the road.

The vehicle struck a fire hydrant, crossed over several front yards, and then crashed into a parked vehicle.

Luckily, no one was injured.

The driver was arrested and evaluated by a drug recognition expert while at police headquarters.

They were charged with one count of impaired operation by drugs.

The vehicle was impounded for seven days and the driver had their licence suspended for 90 days.
