Contractor at NOVA Corunna taken to hospital

One person was taken to hospital from NOVA Chemicals Corunna site Monday.

Company spokesperson Julia Iacovella shared further information, via MyCNN, within 25 minutes of the incident being first reported just before 10 a.m.

"NOVA Chemicals responded to a non-occupational medical assist today involving a contractor at our Corunna Site," said Iacovella. "An ambulance was received on-site and the individual was transported to the hospital."

Information shared through the Aamjiwnaang Notification System at 9:52 a.m. said that a "Code 8 was issued for NOVA at Corunna." It added that there was a "man down in [the] acid gas area."

A Code 8 is issued to advise the Chemical Valley Emergency Coordinating Organization (CVECO] of a potential problem and call a police officer to the scene. However, no action is required by CVECO.

Further information about the incident has yet to be shared.
