Shell acknowledges lack of details after unit upset

Shell is apologizing for its lack of communication after a unit upset was reported on Wednesday morning.

The Sarnia Manufacturing Centre in Corunna sent out a Community Awareness Notification through Sarnia-Lambton Alerts about the upset at around 6 a.m., but no further details were included.

"We recognize this can cause angst in the community and are investigating so we can ensure it doesn't happen again," said a notification from the Shell security team issued at around 3:30 p.m.

Shell said a unit upset at approximately 5:15 a.m. caused increased flaring and noise.

All safety precautions and standard regulatory protocols were followed and the issue was resolved within about two hours.
