First quarter building permits trailing last year

Construction activity in Sarnia is lagging behind last year's pace.

City hall issued 53 building permits in March, for a three month total of 109, worth just over $14.8 million. That's down about $19.7 million from the first quarter of 2022.

An $800,000 permit was issued for the renovations at Clearwater Community Centre to allow for the relocation of Mallroad Library.

Sarnia city council approved the move during its meeting in March, 2021.

It's hoped the new library will be completed by the end of 2023.

No permits were issued for single-family homes in Sarnia last month, keeping the yearly total at six, down from 21 at the end of March 2022.
