UPDATE: Sarnia police investigate Euphemia St. incident

Sarnia police have charged a man relating to a weapons complaint Tuesday near Euphemia Street and Cromwell Street.

Officers were called to 125 Euphemia St. South shortly after 10 a.m. after a man was reportedly seen carrying a long barrel firearm.

Members of the public were advised to avoid the area, which was cordoned off by police vehicles.

Additional details were released in an update issued late Wednesday afternoon.

"Sarnia Police Uniform Patrol Officers and Emergency Response Team Officers attended and contained the area within minutes," read an update from police. "After containing the area for public safety, Emergency Response Officers confronted a male party who matched the description provided. The male was arrested without incident."

Investigators determined the firearm to be a rifle style pellet gun. No injuries were reported.

As a result, a 35-year-old Sarnia man is charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and failing to comply with probation.

The accused was being held pending his next court appearance.

Police are thanking the public for their help in the matter.
