Playground replacements underway at city parks

After being installed in February, new playground equipment at McGibbon Park is officially open for use, in time for the Victoria Day long weekend.

An update on the playground enhancement was recently provided in a non-agenda city report.

"McGibbon Park has been a fixture in our community for decades, especially amongst users of the Lochiel Kiwanis Community Centre," read the report.

The park is located near the intersection of George Street and College Avenue North.

The playground project was awarded to Playpower LT Canada Inc. in January 2022.

In the meantime, the city is working to replace the swings and bleachers this season at Blackwell Park, located on Blackwell Sideroad, off of Lakeshore Road.

The timing to replace the current bleachers at Blackwell Park south diamond has not been finalized as it depends on contractor availability and delivery schedules.

"We understand the importance of minimal disruption and will strive to minimize any inconvenience," read a separate city report.

Other projects expected to be completed this season are at parks such as Harry Turnbull, Lansdowne, Retlaw, Agincourt, Cardiff, and Newton Parks.
