No injures in apartment fire

Damage is estimated at about $100,000 following an apartment fire in Sarnia Monday.

Fire Life Safety Educator Mike Otis said firefighters, city police, and Lambton EMS responded to a building in the area of Capel and Exmouth Streets, just after 6 a.m.

Otis said the fire was contained to one unit and no injuries were reported.

The cause is still under investigation.

Sarnia Fire and Rescue Services is stressing the importance of having working smoke alarms.

The Ontario Fire Code requires the installation of smoke alarms on each storey of a home and outside all sleeping areas.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
