LCCVI marks Pride with new progressive crosswalk

Lambton Central Collegiate and Vocational Institute [LCCVI] in Petrolia is celebrating Pride with a new colourful crosswalk.

Principal Greg Nemcek said students and staff have reacted positively to the new path that goes across Queen Street.

"The town and the Lambton Kent District School Board have been working on this project for almost a year," said Nemcek. "The town approached us about a year ago and asked if we would like to take our crosswalk and put a progressive rainbow crosswalk on it and we were very excited about working with the town with that."

Nemcek said it's a visual display of inclusivity.

"It took a while to get everything in place and now we have it," he said. "We're very excited to work with the town and the Lambton Kent District School Board to have that finished."

A grand opening of the crosswalk was planned Thursday afternoon.

Nemcek said they'll also be marking pride with a unique activity at the school on June 13.

"Our classes will wear different colours and then we get a group photo outside in the rainbow colours. So, we're excited about doing that also," he said.

The Progress Pride Flag is being displayed across the LKDSB in June in support of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
