Storm takes out pedestrian crossing lights in Petrolia

The controlled crossing at Petrolia Line and Greenfield Street in downtown Petrolia is not working after last week's storm and a repair timeline is unknown.

The Town of Petrolia said Bluewater Power inspected the crossing following reports of malfunctioning lights.

"It has been determined that the units were [heavily] damaged due to a possible lightning strike," read an advisory from the town.

While replacement options are being considered, town officials are asking residents to treat the area as an unmarked crossing.

Pedestrians are asked to be cautious before crossing, and motorists are advised to wait for pedestrians to fully cross the sidewalk before proceeding.

Town officials said signs have been placed at the crosswalk to advise the public that the lights are not working.
